Rain lashes national capital

NEW DELHI - It was a damp morning in the capital Wednesday with rains lashing the national capital and the weather office forecasting more showers during the day.
However, the minimum temperature settled at 12.3 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal for this time of the season.
Delhi received 14.5 mm of rainfall till 8.30 a.m. leading to waterlogging in parts of the capital and traffic jams.
The met department attributed the rise in minimum temperature to the cloudy skies. Clouds hold down the earth’s heat, preventing it from escaping.
“The western disturbance over the capital has brought the showers. Skies will remain partly cloudy with possibility of rain or thundershowers later during the day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 20 degrees Celsius,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
Humidity was recorded at 100 percent.
The Delhi Traffic Police said traffic jams were reported from parts of south and east Delhi due to waterlogging.
Delhi Tuesday recorded a maximum of 18.1 degrees Celsius, six degrees below average for this time of the year.
