Rains bring temperature down in Delhi

NEW DELHI - The chill in the air was back Tuesday with light rain drenching Delhi since late Monday. The mercury level recorded a drop and the Met department has forecast more showers until Wednesday morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the total rainfall recorded Tuesday was 5.1 mm.
“The unexpected rains have been because of a western disturbance over northwest India. We are expecting more showers until mid-day tomorrow,” an IMD official said.
The showers dragged down the day temperatures. The maximum temperature, at 18.1 degrees Celsius, was six degrees below the average for this time of the year.
However, the minimum temperature recorded early in the day was four degrees above the average at 14.6 degrees. The Met department attributed this to the cloudy skies. Clouds hold down the earth’s heat, preventing it from escaping.
Wednesday’s minimum and maximum temperature is expected to hover around 14.7 and 22.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
