CHANDIGARH - The Haryana government has drawn up a Rs.2 crore (Rs.20 million) plan to set up solar power plants at the Haryana Raj Bhawan here and collectorate offices in 10 of the state’s districts.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of Renewable Energy Madhusudan Prasad said Tuesday that a 45 kilowatt (KW) solar power plant will be installed at Haryana Raj Bhawan located in state capital Chandigarh.

“Plants of 4.5 KW capacity each at 10 district collectorates’ offices in Ambala, Jind, Kurukshetra, Rewari, Fatehabad, Hisar, Faridabad, Sonepat, Narnaul and Panchkula will also be installed this year. The total cost of the project will be Rs.2 crore,” Prasad said here.

The solar power plant at Raj Bhawan alone would cost Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million).

He added that the solar power plants were being set up under a project sanctioned by the union ministry of new and renewable energy to substitute the conventional energy with renewable energy options. Fifty percent of the cost of the project will be subsidized by the union ministry.

Prasad added: “This would not only demonstrate the renewable energy options and substitute conventional energy, but also contribute in carbon reduction of 120 tonnes annually, which is the need of the hour.”

Renewable energy department director Sumita Mishra said that under the project, the conventional energy load of 45 KW of Haryana Raj Bhawan complex for energizing 160 tube-lights, 100 CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps), 40 fans, 10 computers and 15 exhaust fans during the day time and outdoor lighting fixtures or garden lights during night time would be supplemented through the solar power plant.

In each district collectorate, the conventional load of energizing 20 CFLs, 10 fans, two computers and five outdoor tube lights of each office would be supplemented with the installation of a solar power plant of 4.5 KW.
