LUCKNOW - Cold conditions in Uttar Pradesh would intensify as parts of the state would experience rains in the coming days, the weather department said Monday.

“In the next couple of days, several parts of Uttar Pradesh, initially the western regions, are expected to receive rains that would lower the minimum temperatures substantially,” state Met Director J.P. Gupta told reporters here.

“Our prediction is based on a hovering western disturbance that is all set to hit the state from Dec 29. The western disturbance would move from west to east and within a week it would cover the entire state. Owing to such a weather pattern, cloudy skies and rains would be experienced across the state,” he added.

Meanwhile, Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh remained the coldest across the state with a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.

In Lucknow, the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.2 degrees, one degree below normal. The minimum temperature in Lucknow has normally stayed in the 6-7 degrees range.
