NEW DELHI - Despite bright sunshine Monday, winter chill continued to sting Delhi, from where seven weather-related deaths have so far been reported this winter.
Bonfires and night shelter facilities in the city have proven to be inadequate for the homeless battling the freezing cold.
Seven deaths have been reported in the national capital so far due to cold.
The skies were relatively clear Monday, leading to normal flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, according to officials. Flights were operated at normal levels as the visibility was better.
The maximum temperature Monday was recorded at 15.6 degrees, five notches below average. It was also four degrees above the Sunday maximum of 11 degrees.
The minimum was two points below average at 4.6 degrees Celsius.
The weatherman said the cold conditions will be similar Tuesday as chilly winds will sweep through the national capital. Shallow fog in the morning has also been forecast.
The temperature will be between 17-5 degrees,” he said.
Some respite is on the way, the Met official said, as the day temperature is expected to rise in the next two-three days. There is also the possibility of light showers.
