BHUBANESWAR - Three people were arrested for hunting migratory birds in Orissa’s Chilika lake, a wildlife department official said Sunday.
“We arrested three people for killing migratory birds in Chilka lake. We caught them with five birds, nets and snares to catch the birds,” said Prashant Kumar Mohanty, the forest range officer.
The 100-km Chilika lake, spread across Puri, Khordha and Ganjam districts, attracts nearly a million migratory birds from Siberia, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Himalayas every year in October. The birds return in March.
