Orissa in grip of cold wave

BHUBANESWAR - A cold wave gripped parts of Orissa Wednesday with Phulbani town recording a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius, meteorological officials said.
People preferred to stay indoors in several places where the temperature dipped to less then 10 degrees.
The western Orissa town of Sundergarh recorded a minimum of 8.9 degrees while it was 9.1 degrees in Sambalpur in the same region, S. Mishra duty officer at the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
Low temperatures were also recorded in other places like Jharsuguda, where it was 10.6 degrees, Keonjhar 10.3 and Bolangir was at 10.8 degrees, he said.
Bhubaneswar, however, remained warmer and recorded a minimum temperature of 14.7 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave condition is likely to prevail over parts of the state, especially in the interior areas during the next couple of days, the official added.
