Cold wave intensifies in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR - Cold wave conditions intensified in Orissa Thursday with the lowest temperature plunging below seven degrees Celsius in some areas.

Phulbani town in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 6.2 degrees Celsius Thursday as against 6.6 degrees Wednesday, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

The mercury also dipped in Sundergarh and Sambalpurs town in western Orissa and settled at 6.9 and 7.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum in these towns Wednesday was recorded at 7.4 and 7.6 degrees Celsius respectively, the official said.

In state capital Bhubaneswar and adjoining Cuttack city, the minimum temperatures climbed down to 14.0 and 13.5 degrees Celsius from Wednesday’s 14.4 and 13.8 degrees respectively.

The Met office forecast that the cold wave will continue over many parts of interior Orissa Friday.
