RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh has around 30 tigers in its two reserves, Forest Minister Vikram Usendi said Thursday.

He said there were some 6-8 tigers at the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve and 18-22 at the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve.

He informed the state assembly in reply to a question of opposition Congress member Dharamjeet Singh, that the government has no data of even the estimated number of tigers at Indravati Tiger Reserve based at Bijapur district in Bastar region because the tiger count of the reserve was not undertaken in 2008-09 due to Maoists activities in the area.

He added the count of tigers and other animals at the state’s tiger reserves and sanctuaries for year 2009-10 will begin soon and the methods will be adopted as per the guidelines of the Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
