NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Tonight the first Lunar eclipse of the year 2010 will take place. The moon will be shaded by the shadow of the earth and this is a great event for the avid star gazers. The eclipse will be partial in nature and the stargazers in India will be mostly disappointed. It will begin in India at around 2.27 p.m. and conclude at 7.50 p.m. It will be almost over when the moon becomes visible according to the Indian time which is quite disheartening.

Apart from some part in Northeastern India the residents of Antarctica, Australia can see the first Lunar eclipse of 2010. Birla Planetarium spokespersons have confirmed the news. A partial lunar eclipse happens when the earth’s shadow covers the moon but the moon, the sun and the earth are misaligned. The people in Assam may get a chance to witness the celestial phenomena for a few minutes as it has been reported. The rest of the country may have to give it a miss.

The next Lunar eclipse in India will take place in December 2010. This one will be a total eclipse but sadly this eclipse may also be missed out by the residents of India. It will happen at daytime in India as it has been reported by the ministry of earth sciences. The Lunar eclipse which is a celestial phenomenon is often viewed by the religious and superstitious lot as something linked with mythology and deities. The superstitious lot believes in following certain age old ancient rituals during and after eclipse actually takes place.
