LUCKNOW - The carcass of a male leopard was recovered from the Dudhwa forest reserve in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, an official said Monday.

The carcass of the leopard, aged around three years, was found late Sunday evening in dense shrubs of the Kishunpur sanctuary of the forest reserve.

Even as the exact cause of the leopard’s death is yet to be ascertained, a forest official did not rule out the involvement of poachers in the animal’s death as a metal wire was recovered from the site.

“The recovery of metal wire near the carcass makes us suspicious,” Dudhwa reserve Director Shailesh Prasad told reporters Monday in Lakhimpur, some 200 km from Lucknow.

“The carcass has been sent for autopsy,” he added.
