RANCHI - A baby elephant which fell into a well on the outskirts of Ranchi was Wednesday rescued after 15 long hours - by pumping water so that it could float to the surface.

The year-old elephant met with the accident late Tuesday in Burudih village after separating from the herd. The rescue work started Wednesday morning, a forest department official told IANS.

Once the fire brigade began to fill the well with water, the baby elephant floated up — and then walked out to freedom.
