Himachal hill towns get set for more snow

SHIMLA - The hill resorts of Himachal Pradesh Sunday awaited more snowfall as the night temperature was expected to fall further, according to weather officials.

A fresh spell of snow greeted the people of the picturesque Manali and Kalpa, bringing the temperature down by several notches.

Manali in Kullu district, Kalpa in Kinnaur district and Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district saw 5 cm, 2 cm and 1 cm of snow respectively.

These towns had seen good spells of snow in the last two days of 2010.

“Isolated places in Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kullu and Kinnaur districts have been experiencing moderate spell of snow since early Sunday,” an official said.

Shimla reeled under cold wave as minimum temperature was 1 degree, down by

2.1 degrees from Saturday.

Keylong was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 11.9 degrees while it was minus 4 degrees at Kalpa, 2 degrees at Bhuntar and 3.7 degrees at Dharamsala.
