RANCHI - The Jharkhand Police has adopted the latest technology of 3D mapping to to take on the Maoists in the state.
“The 3D mapping is helping us in getting familiar with the terrain, forests, hills and other places. It helps the security forces involved in anti-Maoist operations,” Superintendent of Police of anti-Maoist operation Apoorva told IANS.
The 3D mapping gives the clearcut position of a place from various directions.
“If we launch operation from one side of the hill, we get information of Maoists movement from the other side of the hill. Such information helps in major operations against Maoists,” Apoorva said.
Under 3D mapping, the police get the length, width and height of the place. The 3D mapping also help in troop movement.
The terrain, roads, river positions have changed with passage of time. Earlier, security forces followed old maps and were misguided about the terrain and hills. This helped the Maoists ambush the security forces in forest and hilly areas.
The state police gets 3D mapping data and map details from Google and Wikipedia.
