Chandigarh experiences coldest day in seven years

CHANDIGARH - The union territory of Chandigarh recorded the coldest day in seven years Monday with the maximum temperature dipping to 9.4 degrees Celsius and the minimum to 5.9 degrees.
“This is the lowest maximum temperature that we have recorded in the last seven years. In 2003, we had recorded a maximum temperature at 8 degrees Celsius,” a Met official said here.
While Sikh holy city Amritsar registered the coldest day in Punjab, with a minimum temperature of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees below average. Temperatures at Patiala and Ludhiana stood at 6.6 and 6 degrees, respectively.
“Most parts of the state witnessed intense fog in the early hours Monday but it cleared by 8 a.m.
“It also drizzled in some parts of Punjab in the morning and we are expecting isolated spells of rainfall in several parts of Punjab and Haryana in the next 48 hours,” the official said.
In Haryana, Ambala, Karnal and Hisar recorded a minimum of 4.1, 6.3 and 6.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
