SRINAGAR - Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar and other parts of the Valley remained in the grip of a severe cold wave Monday as Leh and Kargil towns in Ladakh region froze at minus 20 and minus 19 degrees Celsius, respectively.

“The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal,” a met official said here.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 10.3 and Gulmarg minus 10.4 degrees Celsius.

“Winter capital Jammu recorded minimum temperature at 7.6, a degree less than normal.”

With no immediate respite in sight, the weather is expected to remain dry and cold across the Valley at least till Tuesday, the official added.

Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway will ply only from Jammu to Srinagar Monday and vehicles will not be allowed to move in the opposite direction. This is due to the highly slippery road conditions in the Banihal sector of the over 300-km highway, traffic officials said here.
