Overcast conditions, fog back in Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana

CHANDIGARH - After a relief of two days, overcast conditions and fog returned in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital Chandigarh Sunday. Amritsar city was the coldest in the region with a minimum temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius.

Amritsar’s minimum temperature was three degrees below the average. Ludhiana and Patiala cities recorded minimum temperatures of 6 and 6.8 degrees, respectively.

Chandigarh shivered at a minimum temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius.

“Melting of snow in the Himalayan region will lead to a sharp decline in the temperature, especially during night. Fog was prevailing in the region since Saturday night but it lifted in most parts by 7 a.m.,” said a Met official here Sunday.

He added: “We are also expecting isolated spells of rains in most parts of Punjab and Haryana in the coming days.”

In Haryana, temperatures at Ambala, Karnal and Hisar towns were recorded at 6.5, 3.5 and 6.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
