Calif. man dies in fall at Grand Canyon in Ariz.
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — National Park Service employees have recovered the body of a California man who died Friday after falling off an overlook at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.
A witness says the man was trying to jump from one outcropping to another when he fell between Pipe Creek Vista and the visitor center on the South Rim.
The victim is identified as 42-year-old Andrew N. Stires of Burbank, Calif.
A National Park Service helicopter crew, returning from a flight below the rim, found the body located approximately 500 feet below the rim.
