CAPE CANAVERAL (GaeaTimes.com)- A first-of-a-kind commercially developed spaceship was launched from the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday morning for its maiden voyage. The first demonstration flight of the SpaceX’s spacecraft known as Dragon, was complete at around 2 on Wednesday afternoon after it plunged into the Pacific Ocean following its completion of two circles around the globe. The successful completion of the Wednesday’s mission is indeed significant as this is the first time that a commercial company has launched a spaceship into the outer space and it has also been able to make a comeback to Earth without any kind of glitches.

At around 10:43 on Wednesday morning, SpaceX’s Dragon was launched on Falcon 9 rocket and it was stationed at an orbit few minutes later. Flying at a height of 186, the spaceship was able to successfully complete around two trips around Earth before a splashdown into the Pacific Ocean near Baja California. Following the completion of the mission, NASA deputy administrator Lori Garver reiterated that the space agency was indeed delighted over the successful manner in which Dragon could complete the operation. During Wednesday’s test flight, the spacecraft was empty but in the near future, NASA has plans to fill it with cargo and later with astronauts with the International Space Station as its destination.

While reacting to the successful completion of the test flight, Elon Musk who is the CEO of the space transport company SpaceX told reporters that the entire mission took off better than expected and none of the back-up systems were needed at any point of time. Given the fact that so much could go wrong but everything worked out just fine was a relief in itself, SpaceX CEO further hinted.
